CH. 69 AL-ḤĀQQAH PT. 29 Messenger of their Lord, therefore He seized them- -а severe seizing. وَجَاءَ فِرْعَوْنُ وَمَنْ قَبْلَهُ وَالْمُؤْتَفِتُ And Pharaoh, and those. 10 بِالْخَاطِئَةِ & who were before him, and the overthrown cities persistently committed sins. 4345 فَعَصَوْا رَسُولَ رَبِّهِمْ فَأَخَذَهُمْ أَخَذَةً And they disobeyed the. 11 رابِيَةً إِنَّا لَمَّا طَغَا َ الْمَاءِ حَمَلْنَكُمْ فِي waters الْجَارِيَةِ لِنَجْعَلَهَا لَكُمْ تَذْكِرَةً وَتَعِيَهَا أُذُنٌ وَاعِيَةٌ فَإِذَا نُفِخَ فِي الصُّوْرِ نَفْخَةٌ وَاحِدَةٌ 12. Verily, when the waters rose high, We bore you in the boat, 4346 13. That We might make it a reminder for you, dand that retaining ears might retain it. 4347 14. Commentary: "The overthrown cities" were Sodom and Gomorrah. See also 11:83. 4346. Commentary: to those who defy God's laws and His Message, implying that opponents of the Holy Prophet would meet with no better fate if they did not repent and give up their evil ways. The reference in the verse is to 4348. Commentary: Noah's Flood. 4347. Important Words: (might retain it) is derived from i. e. he kept or وعى الحديث They say. وعی retained the narrative in his mind or memory; he learned it by heart (Aqrab). Commentary: The various punishments which overtook disbelievers for their sins and opposition to Divine Prophets at different times have been mentioned as a standing and permanent reminder 3210 From this verse begins a description of the punishment that overtook the opponents of the Holy Prophet, namely, the Fall of Mecca, their greatest stronghold and the centre of their power and glory. The Holy Prophet's march on Mecca was so swift and sudden that the Meccans were taken completely by surprise. It came, as it were, as a bolt from the blue.
