PT. 25 AL-JĀTHIYAH concerning that wherein they differed. 3742 CH. 45 ثُمَّ جَعَلْنَكَ عَلَى شَرِيعَةٍ مِّنَ الْأَمْرِ Then We set thee on a clear. 19 path concerning the affair; so فَاتَّبِعْهَا وَلَا تَتَّبِعْ أَهْوَاءَ الَّذِينَ لَا follow it, and follow not the يَعْلَمُونَ evil inclinations of those who know not. 3743 إنَّهُمْ لَنْ تُخْنُوا عَنْكَ مِنَ اللهِ شَيْئًا وَاِنَّ Verily, they will not avail. 20 thee aught against Allah. Surely, of the other; but Allah is the الظَّلِمِينَ بَعْضُهُمْ أَوْلِيَاءُ بَعْضٍ ۚ وَاللهُ the wrongdoers are friends one وَلِي الْمُتَّقِينَ friend of the righteous. هذَا بَصَابِرُ لِلنَّاسِ وَهُدًى وَرَحْمَةٌ This Book contains clear. 21 evidences for mankind and is a guidance and a mercy for a people who possess firm faith. 3744 لِقَوْمٍ يُوقِنُونَ أَمْ حَسِبَ الَّذِيْنَ اجْتَرَحُوا السَّيَّاتِ Do those who commit evil. 22 deeds think that We shall make اَنْ نَّجْعَلَهُمْ كَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا them like those who believe and ª5:49; 6:151. 5:52; 9:67. 7:204; 12:109. d32:19; 38:29; 39:10. 3742. Commentary: "The Affair" signifies "the Affair of the Holy Prophet" (see next verse) and the verse purports to say that the Book of Moses contains many clear prophecies about the advent of the Holy Prophet and that the Israelites rejected him not because there was any dearth of arguments and signs and divine prophecies to support and establish his claim but because of "mutual envy", i. e. they did not like the very idea that a Prophet should have appeared from among the non- Israelites. 3743. Commentary: This verse makes it quite clear that "the Affair" or "Matter" referred to in the preceding verse signifies the advent of the Holy Prophet and Quranic revelation. 3744. Commentary: The verse means that just as the Torah "was a guidance and mercy for the Israelites" (see v. 17 above); similarly, this Book, the Quran, is a guidance and mercy for the whole of | humanity for all times to come. 2891
