PT. 25 حَتَّى إِذَا جَاءَ نَا قَالَ يُلَيْتَ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَكَ بُعْدَ الْمَشْرِقَيْنِ فَبِئْسَ الْقَرِينُ CH. 43 AZ-ZUKHRUF 39. Till, when such a one comes to Us, he says to his companion, 'Would that between me and thee were the distance of the East and the West!' What an evil companion is he! 3666 b. 40. And the fact that you are partners in punishment will not profit you this day, for you have acted wrongfully. '3667 وَلَنْ يَنْفَعَكُمُ الْيَوْمَ إِذْ ظَلَمْتُمُ أَنَّكُمْ فِي الْعَذَابِ مُشْتَرِكُونَ deaf hear, or guide the blind and him who is in manifest error?3668 أَفَأَنْتَ تُسْمِعُ الصُّمَّ اَوْ تَهْدِى الْعُمْيَ Canst thou, then, make the. 41 وَمَنْ كَانَ فِي ضَلَلٍ مُّبِينٍ فَإِمَّا نَذْهَبَنَّ بِكَ فَإِنَّا مِنْهُمُ مُنْتَقِمُونَ 42. dAnd if We take thee away, We shall nevertheless exact retribution from them, 3668A "3:31. 37:34. 10:43; 27:81. d13:41; 40:78. snares of Satan and would benefit to either of them because it consequently come to grief. 3666. Commentary: When man is confronted with the evil consequences of his wicked deeds, he seeks to avoid and shun his erstwhile companions as if he never knew them. The expression which literally means "distance of two Easts" has been appropriately translated as "distance of the East and the West. " 3667. Commentary: The fact that both the accomplices are equal partners in a crime and, therefore, are equal sharers punishment, can be of no use in or lessens neither their individual responsibility nor the punishment which each of them incurs and 2858 suffers. 3668. Commentary: When disbelievers deliberately shut their eyes and ears to the message of truth, they sink deeper into sin till they are completely lost. 3668A. Commentary: This verse, like several other verses of the Quran, shows that Divine punishment was to come upon the disbelievers after the Holy Prophet had departed from among them; and so it came to pass.
