CH. 28 AL-QAŞAŞ PT. 20 وَإِذَا سَمِعُوا اللَّغْوَاَعْرَضُوا عَنْهُ وَقَالُوا لَنَا And when they hear vain. 56 talk, they turn away from it and اَعْمَالُنَا وَلَكُمْ أَعْمَالُكُمْ سَلَمٌ عَلَيْكُمْ say, Unto us our works and لَا نَبْتَغِي الْجَهِلِينَ unto you your works. Peace be to you. ignorant. ' "We seek not the إِنَّكَ لَا تَهْدِي مَنْ أَحْبَبْتَ وَلَكِنَّ Surely, thou wilt not be. 57 able to guide all whom thou lovest; but Allah اللهَ يَهْدِى مَنْ يَشَاءُ ۚ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ guides whomsoever He pleases; and He knows best those who would accept guidance. 2917 58. And they say, 'If we were to follow the guidance with thee, بِالْمُهْتَدِينَ وَقَالُوا إِنْ نَّتَّبِعِ الْهُدَى مَعَكَ نُتَخَطَفُ مِنْ أَرْضِنَا أَوَلَمْ تُمَكِّنْ لَهُمْ حَرَمًا we should be snatched away امِنَّا يُجْبَى إِلَيْهِ ثَمَرتُ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ رِزْقًا established for them a safe مِنْ لَدُنَّا وَ لكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ from our land. Commentary: The verse shows how anxious the Holy Prophet was that all those to whom he addressed his message should have believed in him and thus should have saved themselves from upon them and deprive them of their possessions and freedom. It purports to say that from time immemorial Mecca (which is now going to be the centre of the new Faith) has remained a safe sanctuary and those whoever the evil consequences of rejecting the sought to interfere with its sacred Divine Message.
