PT. 19 ASH-SHU ARĀ' 66. "And We saved Moses and those who were with him. 67. "Then We drowned the others. 68. In this, verily there is a Sign; but most of these would not believe. 69. And surely thy Lord-He is the Mighty, the Merciful. R. 5. 70. And recite unto them the story of Abraham. 2747 71. When he said to his father and his people, 'What do you worship?'2748 CH. 26 وَانْجَيْنَا مُوْسٰى وَمَنْ مَّعَةَ أَجْمَعِينَ لما غرفة الآخرين اِنَّ فِي ذلِكَ لَآيَةً وَمَا كَانَ اَكْثَرُهُمْ مُّؤْمِنِينَ وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الرَّحِيمُن وَاتْلُ عَلَيْهِمْ نَبَا ابْرُ هِيمَ إِذْ قَالَ لِاَ بِيْهِ وَقَوْمِهِ مَا تَعْبُدُونَ 72. "They said, "We worship ESKÉ idols, and we continue to be devoted to them. ' 73. "See 26:73 place; thither; yonder. This word is generally used to denote a place which is remote while to denotes a place which is near (Lane & Aqrab). See also 2:116. 2747. Commentary: The account of Moses is followed by that of the great Patriarch Abraham in this verse. Moses being the Holy Prophet's counterpart, his account formed the principal subject of the present Surah. Abraham's account stood second in importance to that of Moses because he was the Holy Prophet's great ancestor and the progenitor of the two Houses, the House of Ishmael and the House of Israel. 2748. Commentary: Throughout the Quran the name of Abraham has been associated with a vigorous campaign against idolatry. He seems to be the first uncompromising iconoclast of whose activities history has kept a record. He preached against idolatry, even the Unity of God to his father, to his at the peril of his life and preached people and to the king of his country. 2749.
