CH. 18 إِذْ أَوَى الْفِتْيَةُ إِلَى الْكَهْفِ فَقَالُوا رَبَّنَا آتِنَا مِنْ لَّدُنْكَ رَحْمَةً وَهَيِّئْ لَنَا ,the Cave and said, “Our Lord مِنْ أَمْرِنَا رَشَدًا PT. 15 AL-KAHF 11. When the young men betook themselves for refuge to bestow on us mercy from Thyself, and provide for us right guidance in our affair. '2051 12. So We sealed up their ears in the Cave for a number of years. 2052 فَضَرَبْنَا عَلَى أَذَانِهِمْ فِي الْكَهْفِ سِنِينَ عددان ثُمَّ بَعَثْتُهُمْ لِنَعْلَمَ أَيُّ الْحِزْبَيْنِ أَحْصى Then We raised them up. 13 that We might know which of ۱۳ the two parties would better & reckon the time that they had tarried. 2053 2051. Important Words: لِمَا لَبِثُوا أَمَدًان 2052. Important Words: (rashadun) رشد (right guidance) رشدا. (We sealed up their ears ضربنا على اذانهم راشد is the noun-infinitive from (rashida) as (rushdun) is the noun-infinitive from (rashada). means, he took or followed a right way or course or direction. They say (rashida) i. e. he took or followed a right course in his affair. (rushda-hū) means, he attained years of discretion, when he was able to take or follow a right course. Some say that (rushdun) relates to the things of the present life and to those of the life to come; and (rashadun) only to those of the life to come but this distinction does not accord with The word has a vast variety of meanings. They say i. e. he prevented him from doing a thing that means, he ضرب على اذنه. he had begun prevented him from hearing. So the Quranic expression means, We prevented them from hearing. It also means, We made them sleep by any sound from preventing into their ears in penetrating consequence of which they would have awoke (Lane & Aqrab). See also 2:274 & 4:35. Commentary: Literally the verse means, We Arabic idiom. (Lane, Aqrab & prevented any sound from penetrating Mufradāt). Commentary: The verse means to say that the Dwellers of the Cave prayed to God for His Mercy and deliverance from the difficult situation in which they found themselves. 1849 into their ears, i. e. for a number of years they remained wholly cut off from the affairs of the outside world and did not know what was happening there. 2053.
