PT. 11 هُوَ الَّذِي يُسَيّرُكُمْ فِي الْبَرِّ وَالْبَحْرِ ج CH. 10 YŪNUS b 23. He it is Who enables you to journey through land and sea حَتَّى إِذَا كُنْتُمْ فِي الْفُلْكِ وَجَرَيْنَ بِهِمْ until, when you are on board the ships and they sail with بِرِيحٍ طَيِّبَةٍ وَفَرِحُوا بِهَا جَاءَتْهَا رِيحٌ them with a fair breeze and they عَاصِف وَجَاءَهُمُ الْمَوْجُ مِنْ كُلِّ rejoice in it, there overtakes them (the ships) a violent wind مَكَانٍ وَظَنُّوا أَنَّهُمْ أُحِيْطَ بِهِمْ دَعَوُا and the waves come on them اللهَ مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ الدِّينَ : لَبِنْ أَنجَيْتَنَا that they are encompassed, then مِنْ هَذِهِ لَتَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الشَّكِرِينَ from every side and they think they call upon Allah, purifying their religion for Him, saying, 'If Thou deliver us from this, we will surely be of the thankful. '1298 "17:67; 29:66; 31:33. righteous sometimes suffer along wind blowing violently or vehemently. with the wicked, and also why Divine means, a day violent in respect punishment is often deferred so that of wind and storm (Lane & Aqrab). the few good of heart may benefit from that postponement. It will be noted that whereas in the verse God ascribes the bestowal of "mercy" to Himself, no such mention is made with regard to "adversity. " This is to point out that whereas mercy comes from God, adversity is the result of man's own evil actions. 1298. Important Words: Commentary: The verse purports to say that on the part of God the system of punishing and showing mercy goes hand in hand, as does on the part of disbelievers the habit of acting wickedly in time of ease and repenting temporarily when punishment overtakes them. But disbelievers always ignore the fact that, just as a pleasant breeze sometimes develops into a violent gale and causes widespread destruction, similarly, the remission that is granted to them may prove the prelude to their destruction. To bring home to disbelievers this patent truth, their attention is drawn to the means, | comforts and perils of a sea-voyage. (violent) is the active participle from. They say i. e. the wind blew violently or vehemently. means, the she-camel went quickly with her rider, as if she were the wind. means, عصف الزرع. the time destroyed them means, he cut the corn before its attaining maturity. 1240
