PT. 13 AR-RA'D CH. 13 وَالَّذِينَ أَتَيْنَهُمُ الْكِتَبَ يَفْرَحُونَ بِمَا And those to whom We. 37 have given the Book rejoice in اُنْزِلَ إِلَيْكَ وَمِنَ الْأَحْزَابِ مَنْ تُنْكِرُ what has been revealed to thee بَعْضَهُ قُلْ إِنَّمَا أُمِرْتُ أَنْ أَعْبُدَ اللهَ b And of the different parties there are some who deny a part thereof. Say, "I am commanded to worship Allah and not to set up equals to Him. وَلَا أُشْرِكَ بِهِ إِلَيْهِ اَدْعُوا وَإِلَيْهِ only ماب Unto Him do I call, and unto Him is my return. '1647 وَكَذَلِكَ اَنْزَلْنَهُ حُكْمَا عَرَبِيًّا وَلَبِنِ And thus have We revealed. 38 it as a clear judgement. And if اتَّبَعْتَ أَهْوَاءَهُمْ بَعْدَ مَا جَاءَكَ مِنَ thou follow their evil desires لا الْعِلْمِ مَالَكَ مِنَ اللَّهِ مِنْ وَلِيِّ وَلَا وَاقٍ after the knowledge that has come to thee, thou shalt have no friend nor defender against Allah. 1648 & "28:53. 2:86. 18:111; 39:12; 72:21. 12:3; 20:114; 43:4. 2:121,146; 42:16. 1647. Commentary: This verse shows that some of the "People of the Book" had accepted Islam while the Holy Prophet was yet in Mecca. The words, rejoice in what has been revealed to thee, most probably refer to Negus, the Abyssinian King and some of his people who, in their hearts, had become Muslims. But as their faith had not yet become publicly known, the words used about them are not "they believe" but simply "they rejoice. " The words, to whom We have given the Book, may also refer to Muslims, who naturally rejoiced to hear the glad tidings of their final triumph. By the word (parties) is meant all those people to whom a Prophet is sent and who do not accept him. In the verse under comment the people referred to are the Jews, Christians and all other disbelievers, as the Holy Prophet has been sent to all the nations of the earth. The words, a part thereof, have used because disbelievers been denied or disapproved of only those parts of the Quran which disagreed with their own Scriptures or their own beliefs.
