AT-TAUBAH CH. 9 كَيْفَ يَكُونُ لِلْمُشْرِكِيْنَ عَهْدُ عِنْدَ How can there be a treaty of. 7 these idolaters with Allah and a اللهِ وَعِنْدَ رَسُولِةٍ إِلَّا الَّذِينَ عُهَدتُّمْ His Messenger, except those عِنْدَ الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ ۚ فَمَا اسْتَقَامُوْالَكُمْ with whom you entered into a treaty at the Sacred Mosque? فَاسْتَقِيمُوا لَهُمْ إِنَّ اللهَ يُحِبُّ الْمُتَّقِينَ So, as long as they stand true to you, stand true to them. Surely, Allah loves those who are righteous. 1170 كَيْفَ وَإِنْ يَظْهَرُوا عَلَيْكُمْ لَا يَرْقُبُوا How can it be when, if they. 8 b. prevail against you, they would not observe relationship or any tie فِيُكُمْ إِلَّا وَلَا ذِمَّةً يُرْضُونَكُمْ of covenant in respect of you? They would please you with their mouths, while their hearts refuse, and most of them are perfidious. 1171 بِأَفْوَاهِهِمْ وَتَأبِى قُلُوْبُهُمْ وَاَكْثَرُهُمْ فَسِقُونَ ® "9:4. b9:10. they had been acquainted with the teachings of Islam, they were to be safely conveyed to their place of security, if they did not feel inclined to embrace the new Faith. In the face of such clear teachings, it is the height of injustice to accuse Islam of intolerance or of allowing compulsion for the propagation of its teaching. 1170. Commentary: bidden to observe their engagements strictly and faithfully with them. It will be noted that like 9:4, this verse describes the observance of covenants and treaties as an act of piety and righteousness which is pleasing in the sight of God. No wonder that the Quran repeatedly exhorts Muslims to be faithful to their treaties. 1171. Important Words: means, he اله. tie of relationship) ال pierced him with a bright javelin. The words, So, as long as they stand true to you, stand true to them, show that war was permissible only against such non-Muslims as were faithless to their covenants and means, the colour became clear attacked Muslims treacherously. As for the rest, Muslims have been 1137 and bright. J means, relationship, or nearness with respect to kindred;
