AT-TAUBAH CH. 9 كَيْفَ يَكُونُ لِلْمُشْرِكِيْنَ عَهْدُ عِنْدَ How can there be a treaty of. 7 these idolaters with Allah and a اللهِ وَعِنْدَ رَسُولِةٍ إِلَّا الَّذِينَ عُهَدتُّمْ His Messenger, except those عِنْدَ الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ ۚ فَمَا اسْتَقَامُوْالَكُمْ with whom you entered into a treaty at the Sacred Mosque? فَاسْتَقِيمُوا لَهُمْ إِنَّ اللهَ يُحِبُّ الْمُتَّقِينَ So, as long as they stand true to you, stand true to them. In the face of such clear teachings, it is the height of injustice to accuse Islam of intolerance or of allowing compulsion for the propagation of its teaching. 1170. It will be noted that like 9:4, this verse describes the observance of covenants and treaties as an act of piety and righteousness which is pleasing in the sight of God.
