PT. 3 ĀL-E-‘IMRĀN CH. 3 وَيُعَلِّمُهُ الْكِتَبَ وَالْحِكْمَةَ وَالتَّوْرية And He will teach him the. 49 Book and the Wisdom and the Torah and the Gospel;338 50. b And will make him a Messenger to the children of والالجيل وَرَسُوْلًا إِلَى بَنِي إِسْرَاءِيْلَ أَنِّي قَدْ جِئْتُكُمْ بِايَةِ مِنْ رَّبِّكُمْ أَنِّي أَخْلُقُ Israel (to say): “I come to you لَكُمْ مِنَ الطَّيْنِ كَهَيْئَةِ الطَّيْرِ فَانْفُخُ فِيْهِ with a Sign from your Lord, which is, that I will fashion out فَيَكُونُ طَيْرًا بِإِذْنِ اللهِ وَأَبْرِئُ for you a creation out of clay after the manner of a bird, then I الْأَكْمَهَ وَالْاَبْرَصَ وَأُحْيِ الْمَوْتِى بِاِذْنِ will breathe into it a new spirit اللهِ وَأُنَبِّئُكُمْ بِمَا تَأْكُلُونَ وَمَا and it will become a soaring تَدَّخِرُونَ فِي بُيُوتِكُمْ إِنَّ فِي ذَلِكَ and I will heal the night-blind لَايَةً لَّكُمْ اِنْ كُنْتُمْ مُّؤْمِنِينَ ® being by the command of Allah; and the leprous, and I will quicken the dead, by the command of Allah; and I will a5:111. 43:60; 61:7. 5:111. arrhenoblastoma, the possibility of self-fertilization of a woman, even though a virgin, cannot be denied. That is to say, her own body would produce the same result as though sperm cells from a man's body had been transferred to hers in the more usual way, or by a physician's aid" (American Medical Journal). There are cases on record of children having been born without fathers: "A young girl of great moral purity became pregnant without the slightest knowledge of the source. . . There is a case of pregnancy in an unmarried woman, who successfully resisted an attempt at criminal connection and yet became impreg- 495 nated and gave birth to a perfectly formed female child" (Anomalies and Curiosities of Medicine by George M. Gould, A. M. , M. D. , and Walter L. Payle, A. M. , M. D. , published by W. B. Saunders & Co. , London). 338. Commentary The word (Book) signifies both "the Book" and the "art of writing". If the word be here taken to mean "the Book", then it would apply to the "Torah", the Law of Moses, and in this case the concluding words, "the Torah and the Gospel" would be taken as explanatory, the word "Torah" standing for the "Book" and the word "Gospel" for "Wisdom".
