PT. 7 AL-MĀ'IDAH CH. 5 اِنْ تُعَذِّبُهُمْ فَإِنَّهُمْ عِبَادُكَ If Thou punish them, they. 119 وَإِن تَغْفِرُ لَهُمْ فَإِنَّكَ أَنْتَ are Thy servants; and if Thou forgive them, Thou surely art Li the Mighty, the Wise. ”746 120. Allah will say, 'This is a الْعَزِيزُ الْحَكِيمُ قَالَ اللهُ هَذَا يَوْمُ يَنْفَعُ الصُّدِقِينَ صِدْقُهُمْ لَهُمْ جَنَّتٌ تَجْرِى مِنْ تَحْتِهَا profit by their truthfulness. For الْأَنْهرُ خَلِدِينَ فِيهَا أَبَدًا رَضِيَ اللهُ day when only the truthful shall them are Gardens beneath which streams flow; therein عَنْهُمْ وَرَضُوا عَنْهُ ذَلِكَ الْفَوْزُ shall they abide forever. Allah العظيم is well pleased with them, and they are well pleased with Him; that indeed is the triumph. '747 great "9:100; 58:23; 98:9. that his people deified him. Now, as his followers have already gone astray, it definitely follows that Jesus is dead, for, as the verse points out, it was after his death that he began to be worshipped as God. Similarly, the fact that this verse speaks of Jesus as expressing ignorance of his followers having taken him and his mother for gods after he had left them, proves that he is not to come back to this earth. For, if he were to come back to this earth and see with his own eyes the corruption of his followers, he could not express ignorance of his deification by his people. In that case, the answer of Jesus pleading his ignorance would amount to a veritable lie. Thus, the verse definitely and clearly proves that 833 Jesus is dead and that he will never come back to this world. Commentary: This verse constitutes a most pathetic appeal by Jesus to God on behalf of his followers; and the succeeding verse provides the divine answer to the appeal. 747. Commentary: The words, This is a day, refer to the Day of Judgement, which shows that the question mentioned in 5:117 above will be put to Jesus on the Day of Judgement, i. e. after he will have paid his supposed second visit to the earth, as is alleged by those who
