CH. 2 AL-BAQARAH PT. 3 وَاتَّقُوا يَوْمًا تُرْجَعُونَ فِيهِ إِلَى اللهِ ثُمَّ And fear the day when you. 282 shall be made to return to Allah; تُوَفَّى كُلُّ نَفْسٍ مَّا كَسَبَتْ وَهُمْ then shall every soul be paid in لَا يُظْلَمُونَ full what it has earned; and they shall not be wronged. 288 R. 39. يَاأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِذَا تَدَايَنْتُمْ بِدَيْنِ إِلَى O ye who believe! when. 283 you borrow one from another اَجَلٍ مُّسَمًّى فَاكْتُبُوهُ وَلْيَكْتُبُ بَيْنَكُمْ for a fixed period, then write it down. And let a scribe write it in your presence faithfully; and كَاتِبٌ بِالْعَدْلِ وَلَا يَأْبَ كَاتِبٌ أَنْ يَكْتُبَ كَمَا عَلَمَهُ اللهُ فَلْيَكْتُبُ no scribe should refuse to write because Allah has taught him, وَلْيُمْلِلِ الَّذِي عَلَيْهِ الْحَقُّ وَلْيَتَّقِ اللهَ رَبَّهُ so let him write and let him who وَلَا يَبْخَسُ مِنْهُ شَيْئًا فَإِنْ كَانَ الَّذِى ,he should fear Allah, his Lord عَلَيْهِ الْحَقُّ سَفِيهَا أَوْ ضَعِيفًا اَوْلَا incurs the liability dictate; and and not diminish anything therefrom. But if the person يَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ يُمِلَّ هُوَ فَلْيُمْلِلْ وَلِيُّهُ incurring the liability be of low بِالْعَدْلِ وَاسْتَشْهِدُوا شَهِيدَيْنِ مِن unable himself to dictate, then understanding or be weak or be let someone who can watch his call two witnesses from among رِجَالِكُمْ ۚ فَإِن لَّمْ يَكُونَا رَجُلَيْنِ interest dictate with justice. And فَرَجُلٌ وَامْرَاَتْنِ مِمَّنْ تَرْضَوْنَ مِنَ your men, and if two men be "See 2:273. 96:5. has also a right to make heavy demands from them, but He does not. And if He did, what would be the fate of man? 288. Commentary: stand before God and render an account of their deeds. They should remember the principle, "Do as you would be done by". The Holy Prophet is reported to have said, The verse sums up the discussion on the subject of taking interest by warning the people that the day is coming when they will be made to | (Bukhari & Muslim). "None of you can be deemed to be a true believer, unless he likes for his brother what he likes for himself" 432
