121 Why can I not use marijuana? Drugs and all other intoxicants are forbidden in Islam because they are deemed harmful. Islam says that anything that is harmful for our physical and spiritual health is not allowed. For example, at the time of the Holy Prophet sa , people would consume large quantities of alcohol but that would prevent them from offering their prayers as they would be intoxicated. Some people argue that marijuana has health benefits and it is not as harmful to health as perceived by society. This claim is addressed in the Holy Quran, Chapter 2, verse 220, where God says: ﻳ َ ﺴ ۡ ـ ¡ ﻠ ُ ﻮ ۡ ﻧ َ ﻚ َ ﻋ َ ﻦ ِ ا ﻟ ۡ ﺨ َ ﻤ ۡ ﺮ ِ و َ ا ﻟ ۡ ﻤ َ ﻴ ۡ رس ِ ِ ؕ ﻗ ُ ﻞ ۡ ﻓ ِ هي ۡ ِ ﻤ َ ﺎ ٓ ا ِ مث ۡ ٌ ک َ ﺒ ِ ري ۡ ٌ و 7 ﻣ َ ﻨ َ ﺎ ﻓ ِ ﻊ ُ ﻟ ِ ﻠ ﻨ 7 ﺎ س ِ و َ ا ِ ﺛ ۡ ﻤ ُ ﻬ ُ ﻤ َ ﺎ ٓ ا َ ک ۡ رب َ ُ ﻣ ِ ﻦ ۡ ﻧ 7 ﻔ ۡ ﻌ ِ ﻬ ِ ﻤ َ ﺎ ؕ ﻳ َ ﺴ ۡ ـ ¡ ﻠ ُ ﻮ ۡ ﻧ َ ﻚ َ ﻣ َ ﺎ ذ َ ا ﯾ ُ ﻨ ۡ ﻔ ِ ﻘ ُ ﻮ ۡ ن َ ؕ ﻗ ُ ﻞ ِ ا ﻟ ۡ ﻌ َ ﻔ ۡ ﻮ َ ؕ ﻛ َ ﺬ ٰ À ِ َ ﯾ ُ ﺒ َ ني ّ ِ ُ ا Q ّ ٰ ُ ﻟ َ ـ مك ُ ُ ا ﻻ ۡ ٰ ﯾ ٰ ﺖ ِ ﻟ َ ﻌ َ ﻠ 7 مك ُ ۡ ﺗ َ ﺘ َ ﻔ َ ﻜ 7 ﺮ ُ و ۡ ن َ ۙ ﴿ ٢٢٠ ﴾
