692 Ā'ĪNA-E-KAMĀLĀT-E-ISLĀM―DĀFI‘UL-WASĀWIS 1☆ If Shaikh Sahib has indeed given such a statement, what answer can I give to his fabrication. The readers should ask him to produce my letters and carefully read them together. If Shaikh Ṣāḥib had any intelligence, he could have understood from my very first letter regarding the prophecy that I was informing him about acquittal because it clearly conveyed that I would cause his release. The reason is that I had told him that it was I indeed who had poured water to extinguish the fire. Does Shaikh Sahib not remember that when he visited me for a meal in Ludhiana, he recalled this letter and started cry- ing? Perhaps some drops of his tears also fell upon the bread. So why does he not recall the pouring of water on the fire? And if I had not announced the news of his release, how did it get well known to hundreds of people even before the acquittal? And why did some of his relatives, some of whom are still alive, hasten²* to object to the truthfulness of that prophecy? And my letters 1. It would be appropriate for the readers to avail from Shaikh Ṣāḥib and read all my letters written to Shaikh Ṣāḥib around those days. None of: suggests that Shaikh Ṣāḥib should write something contrary to the facts of the matter. I had only reminded him of the contents of the earlier letter, and it was hoped that the reminder would refresh his recollection. For this reason, the request was made to him, namely, that such is the subject of my earlier letter, I am asking you only to confirm the same. But it is a pity that Shaikh Ṣāḥib unreasonably withheld the letter and fabricated a lie against me that I asked him to tell a lie. God Almighty knows that I only sought a confirmation of the contents of my earlier letter. If I am not right, Shaikh Ṣāḥib should pro- duce my letter under dispute, which he confirms to have received. Moreover, he also confirms that it was written that the grace of God will be bestowed. Your relative, probably your nephew Shaikh Miran Bakhsh, resident of Dasoha, had argued in his shop in the presence of Shaikh Sindhi resident of Khanpur while being in a state of hopelessness of acquittal, with my servant Hamid Ali and said: Mirza Ghulam Ahmad had said that Shaikh Ṣāḥib would be released, but now he is doomed to hanging. Hamid Ali says that I respond- ed: 'Make your objection after seeing the final outcome. ' (Author)
