24 Ā'ĪNA-E-KAMĀLĀT-E-ISLĀM―DĀFI‘UL-WASĀWIS pathological liar emerged from them to declare me a disbeliever. How could the light of Allah be extinguished by the mouth of a liar, devoid of righteousness [i. e. Batalawī]? However, he tried the utmost to elim- inate the rays of truth, to extinguish its lights, and to disperse its sup- porters and helpers. He spared neither young nor old when turning the hasty so-called jurists into slanderers and excommunicators, except a few whom Allah, the Rabbul-'alamin [Lord of all the worlds], saved. Consequently, every tiny bird not accustomed to hunting prey turned into a falcon that pursues its target, and every blind one issued a declaration of disbelief and rejection. They targeted me with increas- ing hostility and every one of them exposed their true nature without slackening. They targeted my honour with their spears and deemed it a virtue that would bring them closer to God. They hatched plots against me and fired up the oven to consume me. They were eager to destroy, annihilate, and make me drink the cup of death and calamity. Nevertheless, Allah willed to crush their designs and to manifest some Signs to them. He is my Lord and His mercy is sufficient for me. For Him alone is my life and death—my preparation and my enshroud- ing. He alone is my love; extremely forgiving is He. He comes to me and makes me drink the goblets of bliss. His remembrance is a drink that eliminates all worries and His love is a thing that captivates the righteous. We will never sever the bonds we have established with Him if we were to be cut into pieces with swords and spears. Behold the effects of His mercy and the Signs of His acceptance. Indeed, the peo- ple are toiling to bring about my destruction but He is the One who is nourishing me. The people are devising schemes to uproot my foun- dation and demolish my edifice while He is nurturing my limbs and branches. The people wish for my destruction, my contempt, and my humiliation while He honours me and gives me glad tidings of exalted stations, and draws me close to Him. even Among His favours is that He has revived the hearts that passion- ately come to me and the servants who stay in my presence and the friends who invoke blessings on me.
