And it is the following:¹ بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ 2 To the Eminent Leaders and Scholars of India & Mystics of Afghanistan and Egypt & Other Nations! All praise belongs to Allah whose mercy overwhelms His wrath in every act and decree of His, and His light triumphs over every dark and des- olate night. Allah is the One from whom descends a host of comforts in every adversity that befalls. Every leaf that clings upon trees, every lightning that flashes amidst mountains, the alternation of days and nights that you observe—everything found upon the earth [below] and the heavens [above] beckons His mercy. Among the Signs of His mercy is that He has sent Messengers and raised Warners, and He has laid the foundations of the edifices of guidance. Among the Signs of His great mercy is the Full Moon [i. e. the Holy Prophetsas] who rose from Ummul-Qurā [i. e. Makkah] during a night whose long locks had turned blacker. He effaced all darkness and placed a bright lamp in front of every perceiving eye. We suffer a loss of words in expressing our gratitude to Him for His immense blessings. He [the Holy Prophetsas] awakened all the worlds and removed the slumber from the dozing ones and wholeheartedly embraced every distress and sorrow in the name of religion whenever they occurred and set an example of striving 1.
