LETTER TO NAWWAB MUHAMMAD ALI KHAN Now, it may be asked that when there is no absolute secu- rity from the interference of Satan, how can we rely on our dreams being from the Gracious God? Is it not possible that we may perceive a dream to be from the Gracious God while it is actually from Satan, or we may think a dream to be from Satan while it was really from God? The answer to such a misgiving is that a dream from the Gracious God can be recognized by its own majesty, blessed influence, grandeur, and resplendence. Anything which issues forth from a holy spring possesses holi- ness and fragrance within it, and anything which originates from impure and filthy water, its filth and stench are discerned immediately. True dreams which originate from God Almighty are like a sacred message. They are not accompanied by a bundle of scattered thoughts. They inherently possess the capability to impact; hearts are drawn to them and the soul bears witness that such a dream is from Allah because its greatness and glory pierces into the heart like an iron nail. And it often happens that someone sees a true dream, and God Almighty shows the same or a similar dream to one of his companions to make him a witness to it. Thus, the dream acquires added strength from the dream of the other person. Therefore, it would be better for you to make some friend of yours a 'dream companion'-some- one who has the necessary aptitude and purity of heart—and tell him that if he sees any dream, he should write it down and show the writing to you, and you too should write down your dream and show it to him. Then, if your dream is true, hope- fully the two dreams will have several common features which will have such a striking similarity that it will amaze you. Alas, if you could have made such an intention in my pres- ence I would have the strong hope that some extraordinary event would be manifested. I am going through a wonderful experience: some days Divine revelations rain down upon me 417
