LETTER TO NAWWAB MUHAMMAD ALI KHAN The soul of the Messiah had a second zealous outpour- ing at the time when the Christians completely and perfectly assumed the qualities of the Dajjal [Antichrist]. Further, as it is written, the Dajjal would also lay claim to Prophethood and Divinity, so they have done likewise. They have laid claim to Prophethood for they have tampered with the Word of God of their own accord making new regulations, amending, and abrogating, which is really the work of a Prophet. They have upheld the commandments which they wished to uphold and have fabricated a new creed and mode of worship and have freely interfered with the faith as if they have had a revelation from God to do so. This undue interference with the Divine Book is, in other words, laying a claim to Prophethood. Additionally, they have claimed to be God in this way that their philosophers have made the intention of bringing all the works of God under their own control. Their thinking bears witness to their intent. They are engaged day and night in thinking how, for example, in some way they themselves could cause rain to fall, and how they could procreate children by placing the male sperm in the womb of the female by means of some instrument, and it is their belief that there is no such thing as the decree of God, and they say that failures are due to their own mistakes and are falsely attributed to Divine des- tiny. All that is ascribed to God in this world, they say, is only because the people of past ages were unaware of the physical causes of all phenomena and labelled all that was beyond the limit of their utmost and exhaustive efforts as 'God and des- tiny. Now, when people come to fully recognize the chain of physical causes, these half-baked ideas will disappear on their own. Thus, it should be considered whether these statements of European and American philosophers amount to a claim to 'Divinity' or something else? This is indeed why they are 399
