LETTER TO NAWWAB MUHAMMAD ALI KHAN rejection and stubbornly insisted upon their hostile opinions, it was at that time that openly clear Signs of the truth of the Holy Prophet, may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, were made manifest; so, at that time these people said it was now better for them to die than to believe. In short, it is the people of good fortune who recognize the truthfulness of a true claimant through the use of their profound insight, and to demand a Sign is the most wretched habit of evil people, which has caused tens of millions of peo- ple-the deniers of Prophets-to be flung into the fire of Hell. God Almighty does not change His practice. As He has stated, in His view, only the faith of such is considered to be faith, who do not show much obstinacy, and who, upon seeing significant pointers and evidence of his truthfulness, accept the truthful one. For them, the speech of that truthful person, his right- eousness, his perseverance, and his very countenance, testify to his truthfulness. Blessed are those who are gifted with the intel- lect to recognize the worth of men. Moreover, testing a follower of the Principal Prophet- who believes in his commandments and the Book of Allah-in the manner of testing a Prophet, amounts to a lack of under- standing. This is so because the Prophets come to make people leave one faith and enter another, to substitute a new qiblah for the old one, to abrogate some laws and replace them with others, but there is no such revolutionary claim here. Here it is the same Islam as there was before, the same Prayers, the same Beloved Messenger, may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and that same Noble Book that was there before. No such thing from the original faith has to be abandoned that could be a cause for great surprise. The claim of being the Promised Messiah would have been greatly burdensome and would have required diligent investigation if, along with it, there had been some addition or 391
