12 Ā'ĪNA-E-KAMĀLĀT-E-ISLĀM―DĀFI‘UL-WASĀWIS abandoned the Excellent Exemplar, making the misguided philoso- phers their leaders and esteeming their discourse as sweet, their errors as excellence; their hearts have been imbued with the love of the lifeless calf of European philosophy, whereas it is nothing but a corpse produc- ing a lowing sound, and they have not even smelled the fragrance of the Divinely cognizant. I swear by Allah! I have been raised by Allah to revive the Faith by His command and to utterly humiliate and disgrace falsehood. I was commanded for this by Allah the Omnipotent, the Originator. So, I promptly responded to His call as an obedient servant and explicitly delivered His commands and strove very arduously for it. However, the people doubted my allegiance and refused to accept my message. Consequently, the depth of their intellect and the claim of their scrip- tural knowledge were severely tested, so the deniers rose up and har- boured many misgivings about me, pouncing upon me with the edict of disbelief even though they were entirely ignorant of the facts of the matter. They dared to enter the realm of which they had no knowledge. They took recourse to cursing and never bothered to examine the truth deeply. This was all out of the blazing fire of rancour that afflicted them like tuberculosis. Well, as far as I am concerned, I have never been such as to disobey the command of my Lord, or to fabricate a lie against Him from myself. He is my Benefactor and the Bountiful Bestower. He has poured down favour upon me and bequeathed every kind of bounty upon me. He guided me towards the right path, with wisdom that holds fast to the truth, and He bestowed upon me what has not been granted to any of my contemporaries. This is but a grateful remembrance of all these blessings of the Gracious Lord. He became my Guardian and Friend and He alone granted that which He granted, and He gave me the glad tidings of prosperity in the Hereafter and in this life. He drew close to me and drew me close; He praised me from His throne and walked to me and exalted me to the lofty heavens. All these favours were due to the blessings of Mustafa [the Chosen One; i. e. Muhammad as]. The
