304 Α'ΙΝΑ-Ε-ΚΑMĀLĀT-E-ISLAM-DAFI UL-WASĀWIS This is the meaning of his having 'descended' from heaven; that is, in the same manner in which the Prophet Elijah ‘descended' in the like- ness of John [the Baptist]. If the Muslims do not accept the story of the Bible, which is authenticated by Hadrat Maşīh himself, they should at least act on the hadith: حدثوا عن بنى اسرائیل ]Pass on the reports heard from the Israelites]. In any case they must not reject it, for every Muslim has been dissuaded from that course. The Noble Quran, moreover, has many other arguments in support of it, which I have mentioned in other writings of mine, and some have been mentioned in this book as well. However, I do not wish to prolong this discussion. I conclude this discussion by saying only that I have been sent by Almighty God to dispel the misconceptions of this age and thus save the people from floundering, and I have been enabled by Him to satisfy you if you are truly a seeker of truth. Now, therefore, I assure you that I call Almighty God to witness that I invited you to get your mistakes resolved. If you still choose to keep silent, the argument of God, glorified be His emi- nence, will be complete against you and you will be responsible for the guilt of your followers. Sir, I ask you in the name of God, in Whose control are all living beings, not to turn down carelessly this epistle of mine, but to publish a carefully considered reply. In concluding this footnote, I wish, merely in the name of God, to advise all those who are enamoured by the writings of Sayyed Şāhib, to contemplate on the topic of whether salvation is the result of faith or philosophy. I say it repeatedly and emphatically, that if religious doctrines had been amenable generally to philosophical reasoning or to mathematical calculation, they would never have been a means of salvation. Brethren! Rest assured that salvation is dependent upon faith and faith partakes of the unseen. If the true reality of things had not been 1.
