ARGUMENT FOR SAYYED AHMAD KHAN 301 إِنَّا نَحْنُ نَزَّلْنَا الذِّكْرَ وَإِنَّا لَهُ لَحْفِظُونَ 10 It is forewarning us of an age of a severe calamity which will befall Islam, and a fierce enemy will stand up in opposition, and a fierce storm will come into being. At that time, God Almighty shall send forth the treatment of a cure. And He shall favour it with an ark for being saved from such a storm. That ark is the invitation of this humble one. If anyone can hear, then listen. You totally deny the ahādīth of the Holy Prophetsas. There is no point in presenting to you the hadith about the advent of a Mujaddid [Reformer] for every century-why would you accept this? So we will leave that aside, but, I draw your attention to the above-mentioned verse, and similar other verses, which I have written for the opportunity of this discussion in this very book. Sir, this is that age, and these are those calamities, for which it was necessary that the Eternal Grace may draw attention towards it. The Noble Quran, while indicating the troubles of this age, explains: إِنَّا نَحْنُ نَزَّلْنَا الذِّكْرَ وَإِنَّا لَهُ لَحْفِظُونَ 20 Meaning that: 'We have sent down this Word and it is We who shall safeguard its honour, its greatness and the teachings contained within it, from the attacks of the enemies. In past ages the material sword of Islam had dispensed with many superfluous debates, and there was ample defence against the mis- chievous and cruel opponents suited to their natures. Moreover, the prophetic age had passed only a short time ago, and Muslims were endowed with taqwā [righteousness], piety and a true sympathy for Islam. But today all this is missing.
