Any verse of the Noble Quran should be given such meanings which agree with the meaning of hundreds of other verses which are available for their support, so that the heart may be completely satis- fied and exclaim that such indeed is the sense that is clearly conveyed by the Sacred Word of Allah, glorified be His eminence. It is a great sin and depravity to impute to the Noble Quran such meanings that are remote from its true meaning, as if we were trying to conceal its supposed faults, or as if the Holy Quran required to be told what it did not know. The egregious error which Sayyed Şāhib has committed is that he accepts modern philosophy to be so irrefutable and certain as if it is beyond any error, whereas this new philosophy and science is just as vulnerable as the errors which are being exposed of the former phi- losophy or science. This is a brief summary of his statement although I cannot precisely recall his actual words. In short, I was so very saddened to hear and read such statements. I was surprised that a man like Sayyed Şāḥib, who claims to be a lover of Islam and a zealous commentator of the Noble Quran and even boasts
