268 ΑΙΝΑ-Ε-ΚΑMĀLĀT-E-ISLAM-DAFI UL-WASĀWIS and cheerfully endures all hardships. Even if the mortar and pestle of calamities were to grind and render him like dust, no sound would proceed from him except : إِنِّى مَعَ اللهِ I am with Allah. When a person arrives at this stage, his affair rises above the conditions of this world, and he is granted, by way of reflection, all of the guidance and high sta- tus that were bestowed upon previous Prophets and Messengers, and he becomes their heir and deputy. The reality that is called mujizah [miracle] in the case of Prophets appears as karāmat[miraculous excellence] in such a man's case, and what is called 'işmat [sinlessness] in the case of Prophets is called mahfūziyyat [protection] in his case, and what we call Nubūwwat [Prophethood] in the case of Prophets, manifests itself as Muhaddathiyyat [receiving Divine discourse] in his case. The substance is the same, but different names are applied because of their intensity or weakness. The blessed sayings of the Holy Prophet, may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, indicate that a Muhaddath is a Prophet in potential. If the door of Prophethood had not been closed, every Muhaddath, in his own being, had the capabilitiy and the potential to become a Prophet. From the perspective of this very capacity or ability, the conception of a Muhaddath is admissible as a Prophet. In other words, the Muhaddath is a Prophet. Just as we say that: الْعِنَبُ خَمْرُ نَظَرًا عَلَى الْقُوَّةِ وَالْإِسْتِعْدَادِ وَمِثْلُ هَذَا الْحَمْلِ شَائِعُ مُتَعَارَفُ فِي عِبَارَاتِ الْقَوْمِ وَقَدْ جَرَتِ الْمُحَاوَرَاتُ عَلَى ذَالِكَ كَمَا لَا يَخْفَى عَلَى كُلِّ ذَكِيٌّ عَالِمٍ مُطَّلِعَ عَلَى كُتُبِ الْأَدَبِ وَالْكَلَامِ وَالْتَّصَوُّفِ. [The grape is wine in view of its capacity and potential. Such expressions are common and frequently used by our people, and such metaphors are found that are not unknown to all wise and learned men well versed in literary books, scholarly expres- sions, and mystic lore. ] This very concept is indicated when Allah, glorified be His eminence,
