200 Ā'ĪNA-E-KAMĀLĀT-E-ISLĀM―DĀFI‘UL-WASĀWIS Throne of God Almighty is also borne aloft by them. The following verse proves the appointment of angels over everything: إن كُلُّ نَفْسٍ لَمَّا عَلَيْهَا حَافِظ The following verse of the Noble Quran also indicates this: وَانْشَقَتِ السَّمَاءِ فَهِيَ يَوْمَيدٍ وَاهِيَةً ، وَ الْمَلَكُ عَلَى اَرْجَابِهَا وَ يَحْمِلُ عَرْشَ رَبَّكَ فَوْقَهُمْ يَوْمَينِ This means that on the Day of Judgment, heaven will be rent asun- der, appearing loose and listless, and will lose its faculties, 3* because the angels who were like the soul of the heavens and heavenly bodies will give up all the connections and will retire to the edges and on that day, eight angels will bear aloft the Throne of God Almighty on their heads and shoulders. In his commentary on this verse, Shah Abdul-'Aziz writes that the durability of the heavens is on account of the spirits; that is to say, the angels who are like the spirits for heaven and heavenly bodies. Just as the soul safeguards the body and maintains control over it, in the same way some angels maintain control over the heavens and celestial bodies, and all celestial bodies exist only in connection with them, and the emanating activities of the planets take place through their means. Then, when those angels will depart from that body as the soul departs from the physical body, the whole system of the heavens will be upset just as the physical system is upset by the departure of the soul. Another verse of the Noble Quran also alludes to this very topic: 1. Surah at-Tariq, 86:5 [Publisher] 2. Surah al-Haqqah, 69:17–18 [Publisher] 3. In the original Urdu, the sub-footnote is included here. See pages 221-241 for its translation. [Publisher]
