180 Ā'ĪNA-E-KAMĀLĀT-E-ISLĀM―DĀFI UL-WASĀWIS physical system. That arrangement is the appointing of angels for protection. That is why God Almighty has sworn by the heavens and the stars—so that the issue of the protective influence of the angels, which is a hidden and abstract phenomenon, may be clearly explained through a reference to the arrangement of the protective influence of the stars and so forth, which is an obvious fact of nature, and also that for the benefit of those who contemplate, He may cite the recogniza- ble arrangement of the physical world to prove the existence of angels in order for a rational mind to understand the existence of a spiritual arrangement on the model of the physical. By way of example, I cite the SECOND OATH as follows: وَالنَّجْمِ إِذَا هَوَى مَا ضَلَّ صَاحِبُكُمْ وَمَا عوى وَمَا يَنْطِقُ عَنِ الْهَوَى إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا AUTHOR'S MARGIN NOTE Commentary on some verses of Surah an-Najm وحي يوحى عَلَمَهُ شَدِيدُ الْقُوَى ذُو مِرَّةٍ فَاسْتَوَى وَهُوَ بِالْأُفُقِ الْأَعْلَى ¹Surah an-Najm, Part Number 27- Meaning that: By the star when it rises or sets, your companion has not lost his way, nor has he erred. He does not speak out of his own desire; rather, every single word of his is waḥy [revelation] descending which has been taught to him by the one with mighty power; namely, Gabriel. That powerful one was fully manifested to him as he appeared on the high horizon. The purport of this oath is that the Messengership of the Holy Prophet, may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, which was an abstract concept for the disbelievers, might be proven to them with reference to the facts of nature which they accepted as fully established.
