THE MIRACLE OF AHMAD وَكُلُّ جَهُوْلٍ فِي الْهَوَى يَتَبَخْتَرُ أَرَى الدِّينَ كَالْمَرْضَى عَلَى الْأَرْضِ رَاغِمًا I find the Faith lying on the ground like a sick person, And every ignorant person walking by it amusing himself with his pride and vanity. وَمَا جُهْدُهُمْ إِلَّا لِحَقٌّ يَوَفَّرُ وَمَا هَمُّهُمْ إِلَّا لِحَقٌّ نُفُوسِهِمْ All their resolve is confined to seeking selfish pleasures, And all their efforts are confined to seeking an abundance of carnal delight. نَسُوا نَهْجَ دِيْنِ اللهِ خُبْثًا وَغَفْلَةً وَقَدْ سَرَّهُمْ سُكْرَ وَفِسْقٌ وَمَيْسِرُ They neglected the path of the Faith due to their wickedness and remissness, And preferred to engage themselves in mischief, misconduct, and gambling. وَمَا إِنْ أَرَى عَنْهُمْ شَقَاهُمْ يُقَشَّرُ أَرى فِرْقَهُمْ قَدْ صَارَ مِثْلَ طَبِيعَةٍ I see sinfulness becoming an essential part of their nature; It seems to me that it is impossible for them to distance them- selves from their wickedness. تَمَنَّيْتُ لَوْ كَانَ الْوَبَاءُ الْمُتَبِّرُ فَلَمَّا طَغَى الْفِسْقُ الْمُبِيدُ بِسَيْلِهِ Hence, when sinfulness became rife to the extent of a vicious storm, I wished for the plague to spread in the country and destroy it. 117
