THE MESSAGE OR A CRY OF ANGUISH يَدْخُلُونَ فِي دِينِ اللَّهِ أَفْوَاجًا 65 What then is the reason that this Anjuman, despite its meagre capacity and insignificant existence, dares to spit at the sun? Is it not simply because they are totally indifferent to religion? Even though hundreds of people come to me from far off places to seek guidance, not a single member of this Anjuman has so far approached me to enquire about the reasons of my claims like a true seeker after truth. Is it a sign of faith that a man openly claims to be the very Promised Messiah whom they have been enjoined to follow, and yet no one from among them gives ear to his voice? They can neither reject the claims nor accept it due to animosity. Is this Islam? What is more, at times the supporters of this Anjuman level baseless personal attacks against me, and at times utter bla- tant lies in order to embellish their account, and yet at other times they deceptively try to provoke this noble Government against me—a Government that is not unmindful of mine and my fam- ily's circumstances. Is this the service that is being rendered to Islam ? إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ. Just look at the communal spirit of other groups. For instance, even though there is a severe discord between Sanatan Dharam and the followers of the Aryah faith with groups of Arya Samājists themselves harbouring bitter ani- mosity against one another; yet keeping their national interest in view, they never approached the Government against each 1.
