36 HADRAT MIRZA GHULAM AHMADAS new religion but the one that was given to Noah, peace be upon him. Likewise, Jesus, peace be upon him, brought no new religion and imagined no novel means of salvation, rather it was the same that was given to Moses and that had always been taught to men by the Merciful God through the Prophets. But when the Christians erred regarding the means of salvation that had been established since time immemorial and regarding other principles of Tauhid [Oneness of God], and when the Jews also became extremely cor- rupt in their actions and Shirk [associating partners with God] spread across the entire world, it is then that God raised a Prophet in Arabia in order to re-illumine the earth with Tauhid and pious deeds. The same God informed us that in the latter days the ide- ologies of worshipping God's creation would again prevail in the world and the practical condition of people would become worse; most hearts would be overcome by the love of the world and the love of God would grow cold, then God would turn again to nourishing the seeds of truth which have always sprouted like grain. Thus will God nourish His faith at the hands of those who shall be chosen ones in His eyes. But only God Almighty knows who they are. However, regarding this momentous task, it is advis- able to address contemporary nobles, including all traders, chiefs, the wealthy and men of sound judgment, and then see who steps forward to empathise with this endeavour and who turns away. How praiseworthy are those who at this time are enabled by God Almighty to accomplish this task. May God stand by them and keep them under the shade of His special mercy.
