GLOSSARY 529 Jama'at Community. Although the word Jama'at may refer to any com- munity, in this book Jamāʻat generally refers to the Worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama'at. Kadhdhab Great liar. A title of Mu- sailimah, who claimed falsely to be a Prophet in Arabia in the 7th century CE. Kafir Disbeliever. Kalimah The declaration of the Islamic faith: La ilaha illallah Muhamma- dur-Rasûlullāh, “There is none wor- thy of worship except Allah; Muham- mad is the Messenger of Allah. Khalifah Caliph is derived from the Arabic word khalifah, which herein means 'successor'. Khulafa' is the plu- ral of Khalifah. Khalifatul-Masīḥ See Khalifah. Khātamun-Nabiyyin The Seal of the Prophets. A title accorded by God to the Holy Prophet Muhammad sas in the Holy Quran. A variant is Khātamul-Anbiyā. Khatm-e-Nubuwwat Finality Prophethood. Kufr Disbelief. of Langar Khānah Community Kitchen. The Promised Messiahas established a dining and hospitality centre that pro- vided free meals to anyone in need, as well as those people who travelled to Qadian to visit him. Madinah The ancient Arabian city called Yathrab, to which the Holy Prophetsas emigrated from Makkah. Home to al-Masjid an-Nabawi and the tomb of the Holy Prophetsas, the second holiest site in Islam. Maghrib Time of sunset. The term is also used for the prayer (salāt) offered after sunset. Mahdi Literally means 'Guided'. Makkah The ancient Arabian city of the Holy Prophet Muhammad's birth, settled by Prophet Ibrāhīmas, and home to the Ka'bah, the holiest site in Islam. Maulawi Muslim religious cleric. Mi'raj The spiritual ascension of the Holy Prophet Muhammad sas to Heaven, described in the Holy Quran and related in detail in Hadith literature. Mubāhalah Prayer duel. As described in Sūrah Al-e-Imran, a contest be- tween claimants to divine support wherein each party prays for God to curse the lying party. Muhaddath A recipient of Divine rev- elation. Plural is muhaddathin or mu- haddathūn. Muhaddith A scholar of Hadith. Muhammadsas Founder of Islam. See Holy Prophetsas. Muharram The first month of the Is- lamic calendar.
