Manqūl, al- Defined simply as 'revela- tion, considered by some to also en- compass faithfully transmitted Is- lamic knowledge, and the natural pair to al-Ma'qul, or 'reason, and together they guide Islamic thought. Maqam Short for Maqām Ibrāhīm, or the Station of Abraham, where the Prophet Abrahamas stood while over- Marfü' Lit. 'Elevated. A report directly attributed to the Holy Prophet Mu- hammadsas (irrespective of whether or not the chain is connected or broken). Masānīd see Sanad Mashhür A hadith report that is so well known among the scholars of Hadith and learned Muslims that its reliabil- ity is established thereby. Maudū A hadith that is considered to be a fabrication. Maulawi 'My master, a title for reli- gious personages. Alt: 'Maulānā' ('our master). Mina A valley near Makkah and a site where Hajj rites are performed. Mu'allaqah Lit. 'Suspended. Refers to one of the seven odes hung inside the Ka'bah in pre-Islamic times due to their literary eloquence. Muhaddath A recipient of Divine reve- lation. (Pl. Muhaddathūn) Muhkamāt A category of Quranic verses that are clear and decisive and which comprise the majority of the Book. Contrast with Mutashābihāt. seeing the rebuilding of the Holy Mujaddid Lit. 'Renewer. ' Pious Mus- Ka'bah in Makkah.
