500 THE LIGHT OF TRUTH-PART TWO Press Name of № Book Page Location [and City] 21 // // //// // 22 // // //// // 23 // // //// // 24 // 232 //// // 25 // // //// // 26 // // //// // 27 // //// // 28 // //// // Excerpt from the Matn of the Hadith ان الأهلة بعضها أكبر من بعض فإذا رأيتم الهلال [Some ahillah (crescent moons) are larger than oth- ers, so if you sight the hilal. . . ] إنهما أهلاه بالأمس [That they both (i. e. two Muslims) saw the hilal the night before] فشهدا عند النبي صلعم بالله لأهلا الهلال أمس [And they both testified to the Prophetsas, swearing to God, that they saw the hilal (of Shawwal) the previous night] أنهم رأوا الهلال [That they observed the hilal (of Shawwal). . . ] فشهدوا أنهم رأوا الهلال بالأمس [And they testified that they observed the hilāl yester- day. . . ] أن رجلا شهد عند علي بن ابي طالب على رؤية هلال رمضان [That a man testified before Ali ibn Abi Talibra to sighting the hilal of Ramadan. . . ] قال الشافعي فإن لم تر العامة هلال رمضان [Imam Shafi'i said that if the general population do not sight the hilal of Ramadan. . . ] قال الشافعي من رأى هلال رمضان وحده فليصمه ومن رأى هلال شوال [Imam Shafi'i said, whoever sees the hilal of Ramadan should fast, and whoso sees the hilal of Shawwal. . . ]
