A WARNING TO THOSE WHO ABUSE THE QURAN 311 strictness. For, the wise one accepts the truth and does not delay like the rebellious, nor does he necessitate the cane. Do you truly wish to cling to dying remains of the Bible even after the sword of Allah, the Lord of Majesty, cut it to pieces? Do not, therefore, persist in defiance like the covetous and miserly, and do not spread disorder in the earth. Do you really want to exalt that which is fallen and patch up that which Allah has torn apart and rendered useless? Do not, like those bereft of reason, fight against God. Depart the darkness of the night for the bright morning of God, and rush towards the truth like the righteous ones and like the serv- ants of the past. Enter the orchard and leave the fire. Behold the bliss and fragrant plants of paradise; reap [your harvest] and guard yourself from the thorns and from Satan, for you will not receive respite, just as your ancestors did not receive it. Why, then, have your hearts become hardened and your selfish desires intensified? Allah will help His servant and His Religion. And you shall not be able to harm him in the least, and you will not be able to extinguish the light of Allah, even if you should die trying in this quest. This is my last word and the end of my pen's journey, and it shall suffice for you if you are among the righteous and seekers of truth. All praise the first of it and the last, the manifest and the hidden-is due to Allah, and He is the Greatest Master and the Best of Helpers.
