The Light of Truth — Page xxv

O People of the Book! come to a word equal between us and you—that we worship none but Allah. All praise belongs to Allah, Bestower of Success, that I wrote this treatise and discourse swiftly to cure the disease—which has become widespread and whose knife has peeled flesh from bone—afflicting those converting to Christianity. They have been consumed by the fire of denying the Furqān and attacking the Book of Allah, the Holy Quran. Therefore, I decided to free them from the jaws of death by showing them the severity of their ailment and guiding them towards the medicine for their illness. I thus wrote this book along with [offering] a large reward for whoever responds [to my challenge], which is five thousand dirhams [i. e. rupees] for every single person who produces the like of this book—and shows similar wonders—which by the grace of Allah is beautiful, pure, the finest, and most precise. I have named it Part One of The Light of Truth Perchance your Lord will have mercy on you but if you dispute, then I shall also dispute and make a hell to envelop for the disbelievers. Verily, the Quran guides to that which is eternal and gives glad tidings to the believers who do good works that they shall have a great reward.
