MARRIAGE & CHILDREN 47 when Hazrat Maulawi Noor-ud-Deen ra was the Royal Physician in the State of Jammu. Along with the normal dowry, Hafsah was also given a box of books. At the time of her marriage, Hazrat Maulawi Noor-ud-Deen ra wrote to her a 'Letter of Advice' as part of the dowry. The letter is paraphrased below: My child, always put your trust in the Almighty and recognise His omnipresence and that He is Ever Watchful over you and always yearn to be obedient to Him. Make Prayer a regular habit. Offer Prayer at its time; always make the recitation of the Holy Quran a habit, except the days when it is not allowed. Keep Fasts in the month of Ramadan, pay Zakat, and perform the Hajj. Keep away from nagging, lies, and accusation, and avoid the vulgar stories so common among women. Do not sit in the company of such women engaged in vain talks. Always write letters to me.
