76 JESUS IN INDIA eminent physicians of all religions, Christians, Jews, Magians and Muslims, all have recorded this prescription in their books, and all have stated exactly the same thing concerning it, that it was pre- pared for Jesus, may peace be on him, by his disciples. A study of the various books in which the properties of the uncompounded medicines are written down it is learnt that this preparation is very useful for injuries sustained by blows or falls; for it immediately arrests the flow of blood that follows upon such injuries, and, as it contains 'myrrh, the wound remains safe from becoming infected. And this ointment is also beneficial for the treatment of plague; and it is good for boils and ulcers of all kinds. It is, however, not clear whether the ointment was prepared by Jesus, may peace be on him, himself after he had undergone the trauma of the cross, as a result of divine revelation, or whether it was prepared after con- sultation with some physician. Some medicines in it are like a sov- ereign remedy especially 'myrrh' which is also mentioned in the Torah. In any case, the wounds of Jesus, the Messiah, may peace be on him, healed up in a few days by the use of this ointment. Within three days he recovered sufficiently to be able to march seventy koses on foot from Jerusalem to Galilee. Hence, regard- ing the efficacy of this preparation, it is enough to say that while Jesus, the Messiah, healed others, this preparation healed Jesus, the Messiah! The books which record this fact number more than one thousand. It would take long to mention them all. Moreover, as the prescription is a famous one among the physicians prac- tising Greek medicine, I need not mention the titles of all these books; but I shall set down below the names of a few books which are available here.
