50 JESUS IN INDIA are those who have gone one better and say that, having died on the cross and come back to life again, he has gone to heaven and become invested with all the powers of divinity and that he is God Himself. And the other people are the Jews who say that he was killed on the cross and therefore-God forbid he is accursed for all times to come; that he is doomed to be the object of perpet- ual divine wrath. And that God is disgusted with him and looks upon him with revulsion and enmity; that he is a liar, an impos- tor and God forbid, a disbeliever, and an atheist; and that he is not from God. So these exaggerations and detractions were so unjust that it was but natural that God Almighty should exoner- ate His true prophet from these charges. The verse of the Gospel quoted above also points to this fact. The statement that all the nations of the earth would mourn and lament suggests that all those people to whom the term 'nation' applies would mourn on that day; they would beat their chests and cry, and great would be their mourning. The Christians should study this verse with some care and ponder that when the verse prophesies that all nations would mourn, how is it possible that the Christians would remain out of this mourning? Are they not a nation? Thus, in accordance with this verse, if they too are a part of those who shall mourn, why then are they not concerned about their salvation? The verse clearly says that when the sign of Jesus, the Messiah, appears in the heavens, all the nations inhabiting the earth will mourn. Thus the person who says that our people will not mourn denies Jesus, the Messiah. Only those who are yet a small minority cannot be the people hinted at in the prophecy, as they are not yet numer- ous enough to be described as a nation. These people are none but us. Ours is the only community which is outside the sense
