44 JESUS IN INDIA contention is hardly tenable, for in John 19:11 Jesus, the Messiah, says very clearly that the Jews have been guilty of a great sin for having resolved to kill him; and likewise in many other places there is the unmistakable hint to this same thing. And it is clearly written that as a penalty for the crime of which they had been guilty against Jesus, the Messiah, they had become deserving of punishment in the sight of God Almighty. See the Gospel of Matthew 26:24. ¹ 1 And among the testimonies of the Gospels which have reached us, is this verse in the Gospel of Matthew which is written out herein below: Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man com- ing in his kingdom. (Matthew 16:28) Similarly there is this verse from the Gospel of John: Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he (that is to say, the disciple John) tarry (meaning, in Jerusalem) till I come. (John 21:22) This means that, ‘If I will, John will not die till I come again. From these verses it is proven with perfect clarity that Jesus, the Messiah, may peace be on him, had made a promise that some people would still be alive when he returned; and among these, he had named John.
