CHAPTER EIGHT The First Converts of the Ahmadiyya Movement in the U. S. S. R. t was my routine to sit with each of them individually to ask how they were doing and, based on the circum- stances and the timing, I would advise them according to the teachings of the Holy Quran and the words of the Prophet Muhammadsas. At times, I would provide them with a Persian translation and explanation of certain verses of the Quran. One man who knew Persian would then translate what I was saying into Turkish for the benefit of the Turkish inmates, but I oftentimes observed those Turkish inmates getting emotionally affected and beginning to sob as they listened to me even before he translated [my statements] into Turkish.
