148 FIRST GRAIN OF SAND food. As for the food I kept for myself, I offered it to the hospital supervisor. He was taken aback and said I should eat it myself and then closed the door to my room. I first prostrated in Prayer to express my gratitude to God Almighty, and then I ate the food. Just like the food at the prison, the food I received at the hos- pital would typically be scarce in quantity, discoloured and sour, with just a small amount of curry. But after this incident, God Almighty so graciously made it happen that the next morning at breakfast time, from my room window I saw a Russian woman bringing a tray full of beautiful looking bread. When she arrived at my room, she said in Russian that she had brought the bread for me and asked that I take some. Since I had already eaten breakfast, I thanked her and said in Russian: Я не хочу [pronounced Ya ne khochu], meaning that I did not want any since I did not have any need for bread. So she took it back. Every day, I was served the best quality for breakfast and other meals like those given to the rich. This was also the grace and favour of God Almighty.
