CHAPTER FIFTEEN Moscow Conditions Worsen W to be qu hile still staying in this room, I was once called to be questioned and to give a a statement. After this, I was transferred to a separate, very small room where I remained in isolation for about four months and received differ- ent treatment from the rest. For example, the standard experience for all prisoners was that they would come to the meal room at a designated time to take their food, then they would be allowed to use the toilet at a designated time, and then they would be allowed out for a daily walk. For myself, however, despite staying in this cramped room, I was deprived of all these opportunities to leave my room. They put a round container in my room, along with some water, for me to use to relieve myself instead of being allowed to the toilet facilities of the prison. At my meal time, a small quan- tity of food was given to me in my room. My daily walks were put to an end. Many times I asked to at least allow me to go out and empty the container they put in my room, so that I can have some
