فاء with فَرَدُّوْا أَيْدِيَهُمْ فِي أَفْوَاهِهِمْ إِلَى : But they thrust their hands into their mouths (14:10); (8) It is also syn. with فِي تِسْعِ آيَاتِ مِنْ : Among (or of) nine Signs )27:13( هُوَ فِي أَصْلِ قَوْمِهِ : He is of or among the purest in race of his people; (9) It also denotes comparison. مَا عِلْمِنْ فِي بَحْرِهِ إِلَّا قَطْرَةٌ : My knowledge is but a drop as compared with the sea of his knowledge. فَمَا مَتَاعُ الْحَيَوةِ الدُّنْيَا فِى الْآخِرَةِ إِلَّا قَلِيْلٌ : But the enjoyment of the present life, in comparison with that which is to come, is but little (9:38); (10) It is also used for corroboration. وَقَالَ ارْكَبُوْا فِيْهَا for إِرْكَبُوْهَا : And he said, embark ye therein (11:42); (11) It is also used for compensation; (12) It is also syn with لَيْسَ فِي شَيْءٍ بِ : It is nought, or not of any account or weight. ]aor. يَفِيُّءُ inf. noun فَيْيٌّ and فُيُوْءٌ [ . He returned, particularly, he returned to a good state or condition فَاءَ مِنْ غَضَبِه : He returned from his anger (to the state of peacefulness( حَتَّى تَفِيءَ إِلَى أَمْرِ اللَّهِ : Until it returns to the command of Allah )49:10( فَاءَ )said of the shade): It shifted or removed or rather it returned from the side of the west to the side of the east تَفَيَّاتِ الطَّلالُ : The shade became changed in their manner. يَتَفَيَّوا ظِلالُه : Its shadows shift The : فَاءَ الْحَدِيدُ The tree had much shade : فَاءَتِ الشَّجَرَةُ (16:49) اللَّهُ عَلَى رَسُوْلِهِ iron became blunt after its being sharp اَفَاتُه : I made it to return. أَفَاءَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمُ الْغَنَائِمَ : God restored or gave to them the spoils. وَمَا آفَاءَ : And whatever Allah has given to His Prophet )597( فَيْءٌ : Afternoon shade; shade after the declining of the sun from the meridian; spoil, booty or plunder, thus called because it returns from one party to another; such booty as is attained without difficulty; such of the possessions of disbelievers as accrue to Muslims without war or such as are obtained from them after the laying down of arms; a flock of birds. فَيْءٌ and غَنِيْمَةٌ both mean spoil, booty or plunder and the acquisition of a thing without difficulty or trouble or inconvenience. According to some اَلْغَنِيْمَةُ signifies "What is obtained from disbelievers by force during war and of this a fifth is to be taken and applied in the manner prescribed in the Qur'an (8:42), and what remains after the fifth is for those who 669 و في فَاءَ
