فتح intellect or courage fled. أَفْئِدَةٌ )plural(. وَالْأَبْصَارَ وَالْأَفْئِدَةَ : The eyes and the hearts (16:79). (see 1242). ]aor. يَفَاءُ inf. noun فَأَرٌ and فَأَيْتُ رَأْسَهُ فَأَيُّ : I split his head with the sword. فَأَيْتُ الْقَدَحَ : I split or cracked the bowl. فَأَوْتُهُ بِالْعَصَا : I struck him with the stick. فَأَرٌ and فَأى both signify the act of فاي فأي فَتَا فتا striking and the act of splitting فِئَةٌ : A party, a distinct body or a company of men; syn. فِرْقَةٌ or طَائِفَةٌ or جَمَاعَةٌ . It is originally فِتْوَةٌ or ور فِئَةٌ تُقَاتِلُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ . (فِئَاتُ plural) فِتْيَةٌ فئة : One company or body of men fighting in the cause of God. فئتن dual )3:14( )18:49(. See also under فَاءَ 。 ]aor. يَفْتاً inf. noun مَا فَتَأْ يَفْعَلُ ذَلِكَ فَتْاً aor. يَفْتَاً )and يَفْتِاً and مَافَتِي : He did not cease doing such a thing. These verbs are used only in negative phrases, in this sense, but sometimes the particle of negation is suppressed, it being, however, meant to be understood as in تَفْتَوًّا تَذْكُرُ يُوْسُفَ meaning مَاتَفْتَاً : Thou will not cease remembering Joseph (12:86). It is of the category of كان فَتَأْتُ النَّارَ : I extinguished the fire. : يَأْجُوْجُ وَ مَأْجُوْجُ ورت فَتَحَ ]aor. يَفْتَحُ inf. noun فَتَحَ الْبَابَ فَتْحٌ : He opened the door. فَفَتَحْنَا أَبْوَابَ السَّمَاءِ : So We opened the gates of heaven )54:12( إِذَا فُتِحَتْ : When Gog and Magog are let loose )2197( فَتَحْتُ الْأَبْوَابَ : I opened the doors. This verb with تَشْدِيدٌ is used to denote multiplicity of the object and for intensification. لا تُفَتِّحُ لَهُمْ أَبْوَابُ السَّمَاءِ : The gates of the heaven will not be opened to them )7:41( فَتَحْتُ الْبَابَ : I opened the door. فَتَحْتُ الْقَنَاةَ : I opened the conduit (in order that the water might run and irrigate the seed-produce(. فَتَحَ بَيْنَ رِجْلَيْهِ : He made an opening between his legs. فَتَحَ الْبَلادَ : He took, won or conquered the country by force. فَتَحَ الْمُشْكِلَ : He made clear or explained what was dubious or confused. فَتَحَ عَلَيْهِ بِكَذَا : He informed him of it or acquainted him with it. بِمَا فَتَحَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْكُمْ : Of what Allah has unfolded to you or disclosed to you )277( فَتَحَ سِرَّهُ عَلَيْهِ : He disclosed his secret to him. فَتَحَ اللَّهُ عَلَى فُلَانِ : God helped, aided him on such a one. فَتَحَ بَيْنَهُمْ : He judged between them. رَبَّنَا افْتَحْ بَيْنَنَا : O our Lord, decide or judge between us )7:90( اِسْتَفْتَحَ الْبَابَ : He demanded or 636
