ام ام (11) one who follows the true religion; (12) one who is known for goodness; (13) a man combining all good qualities; (14) a learned man who is singular in his learning; (15) one who has no equal. إِنَّ إِبْرَاهِيمَ كَانَ أُمَّةً قَائِتًا لِلَّهِ : Abraham was indeed a paragon of virtue, obedient to Allah (16:121); (16) stature إِنَّهُ لَحَسَنُ الْأُمَّةِ : १० Verily, he is beautiful in respect of stature or as regards stature; )17( a time; a period of time; a while. وَادَّكَرَ بَعْدَ أُمَّةٍ : And he remembered after a time )12:46( 1) : أُمَّةٌ قَائِمَةٌ( A party who stand 28 by their covenant; (2) a people who perform well the duties entrusted to them; (3) a people who stand up for Prayer in the latter part of the night (3:11): (1) person or learned man whose example is followed; (2) any exemplar; a model; a leader of a people whether they may be following the right way or not )أَئِمَّةٌ )plural); (3) the head of a religious community. إِنِّي جَاعِلُكَ لِلنَّاسِ إِمَامًا : I will make thee a leader of men (2:125); (4) the leader of any army; (5) the guide; (6) the driver of camels )اِمَامُ 7) (الإبل( The scripture of any people; يَوْمَ نَدْعُوْا كُلَّ أُنَاسٍ بِإِمَامِهِمْ : The day when We shall summon every people with their Leader or their Scripture )17:72( وَكُلُّ شَيْءٍ أَحْصَيْنَاهُ فِي إِمَامٍ مُّبِينٍ : And all things We have recorded in a clear Book (36:13); (8) a road or way; a manifest road or way:: وَإِنَّهُمَا لَبِإِمَامٍ مُّبِينٍ : And they both lie on a manifest way (15:80); (9) a tract, quarter or region of the earth; the direction of the Qibla امام : Before اَمَامَكَ : Look before thee; beware thou لِيَفْجُرَ أَمَامَهُ : To send wickedness in advance of (or before) him )75:6( ام is a conjunction connected with what precedes it so that neither what precedes it nor what follows it is independent of the other. It denotes interrogation or is used in a case of interrogation corresponding to the interrogative í and meaning اَيُّ. They say أَزَيْدٌ فِي الدَّارِ أَمْ عَمْرُو : Is Zaid in the house or Amr, i. e. which of the two )أَيُّهُما therefore what follows أم and what precedes it composes one sentence, and what follows it must correspond to what precedes it in the quality of noun and of verb. أَزَيْدٌ قَائِمٌ أَمْ قَاعِدٌ : Is Zaid standing or sitting. وَ أَنْتُمْ أَعْلَمُ أَمِ اللَّهُ : Do you know better or Allah )2:141(. أَنْذَرْتَهُمْ أَمْ لَمْ تُنْذِرْهُمْ : Whether thou warn them or warn them not 32
