شها شهد witness has been borne )854( يَوْمٌ مَّشْهُودٌ : A day on which numerous persons are present )11:10( مَجْلِسٌ مَشْهُوْدٌ : A place of assembling at which numerous persons are present. صَلاةٌ مَشْهُوْدَةٌ مَكْتُوْبَةٌ : A Prayer at the performance of which the angels are present and the recompense of which for the performer is registered. إِنَّ قُرْآنَ الْفَجْرِ كَانَ مَشْهُوْدًا : The recital of the Holy Qur'an at dawn is ever witnessed )17:79( مَوْعُوْدٌ and مَشْهُوْدٌ and مَفْقُوْدٌ : Past and present and future. 6 شَهَرَ ]aor. يَشْهَرُ inf. noun شَهْرٌ and شَهَرَهُ شُهْرَةٌ : He made it manifest or public; he made it manifest شَهَرَ سَيْفَهُ : He drew his sword, or he drew his sword and raised it over the people. شَاهَرَهُ : He hired him by the month. اَشْهَرْنَا : A month passed over us; we stayed in a place for one month. شَهْرٌ : The new moon when it appears )أَلْهِلالُ( : full moon )الْقَمَرُ : a lunar month; a learned man. شُهُورٌ The month : شَهْرُ رَمَضَانَ الَّذِي أُنْزِلَ فِيْهِ الْقُرْآنُ شَهْرٌ plurals of) أَشْهُرٌ and of Ramadhan is that in which the Holy Qur'an was revealed And when the sacred months have : فَإِذَا انْسَلَخَ الْإِشْهُرُ الْحُرُمُ . (2:186) passed )95( إِنَّ عِدَّةَ الشُّهُوْرِ : The reckoning of months )9:36(. شَهَقَ ]aor. يَشْهَقُ inf. noun شُهُوفٌ[ : It rose or became high or elevated or lofty. شَهَقَ الرَّجُلُ أَوْ شَهِقَ )inf. noun شَهِيقٌ( : The sound of weeping became reiterated in his chest. شَهِقَ الْحِمَارُ : The ass brayed or he uttered the ending of his braying or the final sound thereof. شهيق signifies the ending or final part of the crying or braying of an ass, whereas زَفِيرٌ signifies the beginning there of; a high-sound moaning; a cry of distress. لَهُمْ فِيْهَا زَفِيْرٌ وَشَهِيقٌ : Wherein their portion will be sighing and sobbing (11:107). شَهَقَ فُلَانٌ شَهْقَةً فَمَاتَ : Such a one uttered a single cry and died. ذُرْشَاهِقٍ: A man whose anger is vehement. لک شَهَا ]aor . يَشْهُمْ and شَهِيَ aor. يَشْهَى inf. noun شَهَا الشَّيْءَ . [ شَهْوَةٌ : He loved or desired the thing most eagerly or intensely. شَهُوَ الطَّعَامُ aor. يَشْهُرْ( : The food was good, sweet, pleasant and the like. شَهْوَةٌ : Desire or longing or yearning of the soul for a thing, or extreme or intense desire. It has a more intensive signification than إِرَادَةٌ appetite lust or carnal lust; the object of desire or thing 456
