شرب strength )12:23( اِشْتَدَّ : It was or became hard, severe, firm. اِشْتَدَّتْ بِهِ الرِّيْحُ : On which the wind blows violently )14:19(. ]aor. يَشُرُّ and يَشِرُّ and يَشَرُّ inf. noun شَرٌّ and شَرَارَةٌ and شَرَرٌ [ : He was or became evil, corrupt or depraved; he increased in evil. شَرَّه : He blamed him; he charged him with or accused him of vice or fault; he attributed to him vice, blemish etc. أَشَرَّ الشَّيْءَ : He published the thing or made it known. شَرَّه : He drove him away. 1) : شَرٌ( Evil, wickedness, wrongdoing, corruption; badness, injustice (contr. of وَمِنْ شَرِّ حَاسِدٍ خَيْرٌ : And from the evil of the envier (113:6); (2) An evil or bad man as also شَرِيْرٌ )plural is أَشْرَارٌ and اَشِرَّاءُ and بَلْ هُوَ شَرٌّ لَّهُمْ شِرَارٌ : Nay, it is evil for them )3:11( شَر is also used to denote the comparative and superlative degrees. هُوَ شَرُّ مِنْكَ : He is worse than thou فُلَانٌ شَرُّ النَّاسِ : Such a one is the worst of the people. عُلَمَا ؤُهُمْ شَرُّ مَنْ تَحْتَ أَدِيْمِ السَّمَاءِ : Their Ulema will be the most wicked people under the vault of heaven (a saying of the Holy Prophet( . أُولَئِكَ هُمْ شَرُّ الْبَرِيَّةِ : They are the worst of creatures )987( أُولئِكَ شَرٌ مَّكَانًا : These are in worse plight )5:61( شر also means poverty; fever. اَشْرَارٌ )as stated above) is the plural of هُمْ أَشْرَارُ النَّاسِ شَرٌ : They are the most evil or wicked people. نَعُدُّهُمْ مِّنَ الْأَشْرَارِ : We used to reckon them among the wicked )38:63( شَرَرٌ and شَرَارٌ : Sparks of fire. إِنَّهَا تَرْمِنْ بِشَرَرٍ كَالْقَصْرِ : It throws up sparks like castles (77:33). شر شَرَّ شَرِبَ مَشْرَبٌ and شَرِبٌ and شَرْبٌ and شُرْبٌ inf. noun يَشْرَبُ . aor] شَرِبَ الْمَاءَ : He drank the water, or he drank it at a single draught or leisurely; he was or became satisfied with drinking. شَرِبَ الدَّوَاءَ : He took or swallowed the medicine. شَرِبَ الدُّخَانَ : He smoked the tobacco كُلُوا وَاشْرَبُوا : Eat and drink )2:188( أَكَلَ عَلَيْهِ الدَّهْرُ وَشَرِبَ : Time destroyed him. أَكَلَ فُلانٌ مَالِيْ وَشَرِبَهُ : Such a one consumed my property. شَرِبَ به : He lied against him. فَلا تَعْمَلْ لَهُ عَنْهُ انْصِرَافًا إِذَا مَا الْقَلْبُ اشْرِبَ حُبَّ شَيْءٍ If the love of a thing enters and saturates the mind of a person, then do not think that he will ever get away from it. 435
