سبح سبح He swam : سَبَحَ فِي الْمَاءِ وَ بِالْمَاءِ سِبَاحَةٌ and سَبْحٌ inf. noun يَسْبَحُ aor سَبَحَ 28 in the water and took pleasure in it. Syn. with عَوْم. But according to some there is a difference between عَوْمٌ and سِبَاحَةٌ the former signifying the coursing along in water with immersion of oneself and the latter, "coursing along upon water without immersion of oneself. النَّجُوْمُ تَسْبَحُ فِى الْفُلْكِ : The stars swim or glide along or pass along in the firmament with a spreading forth. كُلٌّ فِي فَلَكِ يَسْبَحُوْنَ : All glide or travel along smoothly in their orbit )21:34( سَبَحَ ذِكْرُكَ مَسَابِيْحَ الشَّمْسِ وَالْقَمَرِ : Thy fame has travelled as far as the sun and the moon. سَبْح also signifies the running of a horse in which the fore-legs are stretched forth well like as are the arms of a man in swimming; being quick or swift; being or becoming remote. سَبَحَ فِى الْاَرْضِ : He went or travelled far in the land. سَبَحَ الرَّجُلُ : The man busied himself in his affairs or in earning his subsistence. سَبَحَ فِي الْحَوَائِجِ : He occupied himself in the accomplishment of his needs. إِنَّ لَكَ فِي النَّهَارِ سَبْحًا طَوِيلًاً : Thou hast in the day a long chain of business )73:8( سَبَحَ also means, he slept; he became still or motionless. سَبَحَ فِي الْأَرْضِ : He dug in the earth سَبَّحَ فِى الْكَلَامِ : He talked much and fluently. سَبَّحَ اللَّهَ وَسَبَّحَ لِلهِ ) inf. noun تَسْبِيحُ( : He declared God to be far removed or free from every imperfection or impurity or defect, and he magnified, celebrated, lauded or glorified or praised God by the mention of His names, saying سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ and the like, or to betake oneself quickly to the service of God, and to be prompt in obeying Him يُسَبِّحُ لِلَّهِ مَا فِي السَّمَواتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ : Whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth glorifies Allah )642( يُسَبِّحُوْنَهُ وَ لَهُ يَسْجُدُوْنَ : They glorify Him and prostrate themselves before Him )7:207( يُسَبِّحُ : H prayed, particularly, he performed the supererogatory prayer. سَبَّحَ also means, he made an exception by saying إِنْ شَاءَ اللهُ i. e. if God will. لَوْ لَا تُسَبِّحُوْنَ : Why do you not glorify Him; )68 : 29( why do you not say إِنْ شَاءَ اللهُ i. e. if God will. سَبْحَانَ سَبْحَانَهُ : I declare God to be far removed or free from every imperfection, defect, impurity and I magnify, celebrate, glorify or praise Him.
