الف ابق أَلِفٌ ]Alif] : It is of two kinds لَيْنَةٌ )soft) and مُتَحَرِّكَةٌ )moving) or هَمْزَةٌ The grammarians have other particular appellations for second kind of Alif )هَمْرَةٌ some of which are اَلِفُ الاسْتِفْهَام )the) Alif of interrogation) as in أَ زَيْدٌ قَائِمٌ )Is Zaid Standing( أَلَمْ نَشْرَحْ لَكَ صَدْرَكَ )Did We not expand thy breast?(, )94:20 ال التفضل )denoting comparative and superlative degrees) as in لِّلْآخِرَةُ أَكْبَرُ دَرَجَاتٍ )The Hereafter shall be greater in degrees( )17:22( السَّوِيَّةِ )denoting sameness or equality) as in ءَ أَنْذَرْتَهُمْ أَمْ لَمْ تُنْذِرْهُمْ لا يُؤْمِنُونَ )whether thou warn them or warn them not, they will not believe), (2:7). اب 28 ]Substantive from اَب aor. يَئِبُّ and يَؤُبُّ inf. noun أَنَّا and أَبَيْبًا and اَبَابَةً[ : He prepared himself for journey. أَبَّ إِلَى وَطَنِهِ : He longed to see his home. آب: Herbage which beasts feed upon; green herbage or plants. وَفَاكِهَةً وَّابًا : And fruits and herbage )80:32(. أَبُودٌ اَبَدٌ inf. noun and اَبَدٌ substantive noun[ اَبَدًا occurs in many verses of the Holy Qur'an اَبَدَ بِالْمَكَانِ : He remained stayed or dwelt in a place constantly, permanently or without quitting; he )a beast) became wild or shy. اَبَدٌ : Time in an absolute sense; a long time; unlimited time; an extended space of time that is indivisible. اَلاَبَدُ : The Everlasting i. e. God; or the Ancient without beginning. اَبَدِيَّةٌ : The quality of being everlasting or of unlimited or indivisible duration. خَالِدِينَ فِيْهَا اَبَدًا : Shall live in it for ever (4:58). إِبْرِيقُ ]plural أَبَارِيقُ[ : An ewer such as is used for wine or water; a shining sword having a long and slender spout and a handle; a beautiful or brilliant woman; a vessel having a spout; water jug; a woman who shows her beauty intentionally. He : [اَبِقٌ . act part إِبَاقًا and اَبَقًا and اَبْقًا inf. noun يَابُقُ and يَابِقُ . aor] ابَقَ و (a slave) fled from his master; he hid himself and then went away: أَبَقَ الْغُلَامُ : The slave fled; he hid or concealed himself; he confined, restrained or withheld himself; he abstained from a thing as from a crime اَبَقَ الشَّيْءَ : He denied the thing إِذْ أَبَقَ إِلَى الْفُلْكِ الْمَشْحُوْنِ : When he fled to the laden ship )37:141(. 3
