the least in the Kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven'. (Matt. 5:17-19) That is why he told the one who had asked what good thing should he do, that he may have eternal life, to keep the commandments; by which he clearly meant the commandments of the Mosaic law. His ministry as a prophet was confined to the Bani-Israel. He was the heir to the throne of David and was to reign over the house of Jacob (Luke 1:32-33). His own conception of the character of his ministry was manifested clearly in the following incident: 'Behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O lord, thou son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil. But he answered her not a word, and his disciples came and besought him, saying, send her away; for she crieth after us. But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel. Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me. But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread and to cast it to dogs. And she said, Truth, Lord: Yet the dogs eat out of the crumbs which fall from 29
