يُقِيمُونَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ

{Who} observe Prayer.

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلۡمُزَّمِّلُ

O thou who art bearing a heavy responsibility,

قُمِ ٱلَّيۡلَ إِلَّا قَلِيلٗا

Stand up in Prayer at night except a small portion thereof —

نِّصۡفَهُۥٓ أَوِ ٱنقُصۡ مِنۡهُ قَلِيلًا

Half of it, or make it a little less than that

أَوۡ زِدۡ عَلَيۡهِ وَرَتِّلِ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ تَرۡتِيلًا

Or make it a little more than that — and recite the Qur’an slowly and thoughtfully.

لَوۡلَا يَنۡهَىٰهُمُ ٱلرَّبَّـٰنِيُّونَ وَٱلۡأَحۡبَارُ عَن قَوۡلِهِمُ ٱلۡإِثۡمَ وَأَكۡلِهِمُ ٱلسُّحۡتَ ۚ لَبِئۡسَ مَا كَانُواْ يَصۡنَعُونَ

Why do not the divines and those learned in the Law prohibit them from uttering falsehood and eating things forbidden? Evil indeed is that which they do.

فَذَكِّرۡ إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مُذَكِّرٞ

Admonish, therefore, for thou art but an admonisher;

لَّسۡتَ عَلَيۡهِم بِمُصَيۡطِرٍ

Thou hast no authority to compel them.

وَٱتَّقُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَٱسۡمَعُواْ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ لَا يَهۡدِي ٱلۡقَوۡمَ ٱلۡفَٰسِقِينَ

And fear Allah and hearken. And Allah guides not the disobedient people.

ٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ

All praise belongs to Allah, Lord of all the worlds,

ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

The Gracious, the Merciful,

رَبَّنَا وَٱبۡعَثۡ فِيهِمۡ رَسُولٗا مِّنۡهُمۡ يَتۡلُواْ عَلَيۡهِمۡ ءَايَٰتِكَ وَيُعَلِّمُهُمُ ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ وَٱلۡحِكۡمَةَ وَيُزَكِّيهِمۡ ۖ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلۡعَزِيزُ ٱلۡحَكِيمُ

‘And, our Lord, raise up among them a Messenger from among themselves, who may recite to them Thy Signs and teach them the Book and Wisdom and may purify them; surely, Thou art the Mighty, the Wise.’

وَٱلَّذِينَ جَٰهَدُواْ فِينَا لَنَهۡدِيَنَّهُمۡ سُبُلَنَا

And as for those who strive in Our path — We will surely guide them in Our ways.

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ ٱتَّقُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَكُونُواْ مَعَ ٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَ

O ye who believe! fear Allah and be with the truthful.

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ ٱتَّقُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَلۡتَنظُرۡ نَفۡسٞ مَّا قَدَّمَتۡ لِغَدٖ ۖ وَٱتَّقُواْ ٱللَّهَ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ خَبِيرُۢ بِمَا تَعۡمَلُونَ

O ye who believe! fear Allah; and let every soul look to what it sends forth for the morrow. And fear Allah; verily Allah is Well-Aware of what you do.

لَئِن شَكَرۡتُمۡ لَأَزِيدَنَّكُمۡ

‘If you are grateful, I will, surely, bestow more favours on you.’

إِنَّ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ تَنۡهَىٰ عَنِ ٱلۡفَحۡشَآءِ وَٱلۡمُنكَرِ

Surely, Prayer restrains one from indecency and manifest evil.

أَوَلَمۡ يَهۡدِ لَهُمۡ كَمۡ أَهۡلَكۡنَا مِن قَبۡلِهِم مِّنَ ٱلۡقُرُونِ يَمۡشُونَ فِي مَسَٰكِنِهِمۡ ۚ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَٰتٍ ۚ أَفَلَا يَسۡمَعُونَ

Does it not guide them how many a generation We have destroyed before them, amid whose dwellings they now walk about? In that surely are Signs. Will they not then hearken?

أَوَلَمۡ يَرَوۡاْ أَنَّا نَسُوقُ ٱلۡمَآءَ إِلَى ٱلۡأَرۡضِ ٱلۡجُرُزِ فَنُخۡرِجُ بِهِۦ زَرۡعٗا تَأۡكُلُ مِنۡهُ أَنۡعَٰمُهُمۡ وَأَنفُسُهُمۡ ۚ أَفَلَا يُبۡصِرُونَ

Have they not seen that We drive the water to the dry land and produce thereby crops of which their cattle eat, and they themselves? Will they not then see?
